You write a blog post, hit that publish button, and then… no one reads it. The problem isn’t necessarily your writing. It doesn’t mean that people don’t like you. It just means that your content likely isn’t optimized to be found. So in this video, I’m going to show you how to write a blog post that drives consistent readers to your blog, which you probably should be getting. Stay tuned.

What’s up, bloggers? Emmanuel here, the Professional blogger. Today, I want to help you clear the confusion and turn that blank screen into an absolutely epic blog post that a) people want to read and b) attracts the target audience you want.

Now, rather than focusing on subjective techniques like writing style, I’m going to show you how to build a consistent stream of readers with strategic topic selection and workflows. Let’s get to it.

Understanding Consistent Readership

First, I want to give you an idea of what consistent readership looks like and what it definitely does not look like. In order to gain readers, you need to get traffic. They’re essentially the same thing. But the way you get traffic to your website will vary. For example, I’m sure you’ve seen multiple traffic source channels in your analytics platform like organic search, social, direct, and referral traffic. All of these people fall into different buckets in terms of how they discover and consume content on your website.

You might also be using paid ads or email marketing to send readers to your posts. These are all great, but paid traffic is only good for as long as you’re willing to pay. The same goes for your email list. You blast out an email, then the traffic fades to nothing. Now, what about social? Same thing. You might get some nice spikes of traffic, but that will likely drop back to normalcy. These peaks, as Rand Fishkin calls them, are “spikes of hope.” And if you’ve used any of these marketing strategies, then I’m sure you’ve experienced what comes after. The “flatline of nope.”

Organic traffic, on the other hand, can produce the opposite effect. Free, passive, and hopefully growing traffic that doesn’t fade over time. And this is the primary strategy that Ahrefs used to grow their blog to over 220,000 monthly search visitors. Now, I’m not telling you to stop sending emails to your list or reduce your PPC ad spend. What I want you to take away from these examples is that billions of people are searching for informational content. And if you have a blog, you should make its purpose to satisfy the needs of searchers and, in return, get the traffic you deserve.

Step 1: Strategic Topic Selection

With that said, let’s jump right into step 1, which is to come up with topics that are proven to generate traffic. The most common problem I see with new bloggers is that they write “me-centered” posts. Now, there’s nothing wrong with creating content about what you ate for breakfast. But it’s all about how you frame it. For example, if I had a recipe blog, how many people do you think would search for, “What did Emmanuel Oh eat for breakfast today?” No one! People go to Google for solutions to their problems. So as you generate topics to write about, you should focus on the reader, rather than yourself.

Here’s an example: Rather than creating a post called, “My kids love these fluffy blueberry pancakes,” go with a helpful approach like, “How to Make Fluffy Blueberry Pancakes That Your Kids Will Love.” Now, this is just an educated guess based on what I think people would be searching for. But you can actually find how many people are searching for any keyword using Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer. Let’s run a search for our main topic, “blueberry pancakes.”

Next, I’ll go to the Phrase match report to find keyword ideas on this topic. Right away, you’ll see some great keyword ideas like “blueberry pancakes recipes,” “how to make blueberry pancakes,” and “vegan blueberry pancakes” along with keyword metrics like search volume beside them. Now, the thing with search volume is that it can be a bit misleading. For example, “how to make blueberry pancakes” gets 1,000 monthly searches in the US alone. Now, if we click on the SERP button, and look at the traffic column for the top-ranking pages, you’ll see that these pages get significantly more traffic than the estimated search volume. And this often happens because these pages are ranking for hundreds or even thousands of keywords.

Now, if we look at the SERP for the keyword, “vegan blueberry pancakes,” you’ll see the opposite effect. Top-ranking pages only get around 27% traffic compared to the main keyword’s search volume. This is why it’s critical to look at the total traffic potential of a topic so you can get the most bang for your buck.

Now, this is just one topic you might want to write about. You can generate a whole list of content ideas by entering a more generic topic related to your niche. So let’s change this to “recipes.” And just like that, you have a list of over 2.4 million keywords that contain the word “recipes.” Let’s narrow this down to some low-competition topics with high search volume. I’ll set the Keyword Difficulty filter to show keywords that have a maximum score of something low like 10. And then I’ll set the Search Volume filter for keywords that have at least 1,000 monthly searches in Google.

From here, it’s just a matter of clicking on the SERP button and analyzing the traffic potential of each topic that might be worth creating a post on. Another thing you can do is find topics that are generating traffic for your competitors and then create content around those topics too. So since I have a recipe blog, I’ll go to Ahrefs’ Site Explorer and enter one of my competitor’s domains. And it looks like they get around 874,000 search visitors per month! Next, I’ll go to the Top pages report to find out which pages are generating the most search traffic for them.

So looking at this report, I can immediately see that chocolate chip cookies, lo mein, and cooking tofu might be good topics to write blog posts about. And as you can see, finding topics that people care to search for isn’t hard. Just make sure you check the total traffic potential behind the topic, so you don’t waste time writing content that people don’t care to read.

Step 2: Assessing Search Intent

Let’s move on to step 2, which is super important, and that’s to assess search intent. Search intent represents the reason behind a searcher’s query. For example, if someone searches for “how to make pancakes,” what do you think they want to see? Probably recipes, right? But what about if someone searches for the query “slow cooker?” What are they looking for? Do they want to buy one? Read reviews? See a list of recipes or something entirely different?

The good news is that search intent is really easy to identify. All you have to do is search for the keyword phrase you want to rank for in Google, and the search results will reveal what I like to call,

“the 3 C’s of search intent.”

The first C is content type. This can usually be categorized into blog posts, product pages, category pages, and landing pages. Looking at the top 10 results for “how to make pancakes,” you can tell just from the titles that they’re all blog posts.

The second C is content format. When it comes to blog posts, a few common formats would be “how-to” guides, step-by-step tutorials, list posts, or opinion editorials. There are a lot of different formats, but this should give you an idea of what you should be on the lookout for. So for our example, “how-to” are the dominant format.

The final C is content angle. The angle is often depicted in the title as the “benefit” as to why someone should click and read their article. So this page is talking about creating “perfect” pancakes, this one is pushing the “easy pancakes” angle, and this one down here is about “fluffy pancakes.” Generally speaking, you don’t want to stray too far from the angle that the top 10 results are taking, but note that angles will vary from topic to topic.

Now, just to show you how important this step is, let’s type “slow cooker” into Google. Immediately, you’ll see that the search results are dominated by eCommerce category pages. If you don’t have a similar page on your site, you probably shouldn’t target the keyword, because your chances of ranking will be slim to none. We have a full tutorial on doing keyword research, assessing search intent, and also knowing how hard it will be to rank on Google, so I highly recommend watching that tutorial which I’ll link up.

Step 3: Writing a Data-Driven Outline

For now, let’s move on to step 3, which is to write a data-driven outline. A data-driven outline might sound strange, but hear me out. A page doesn’t rank for just one keyword. In fact, our data shows that on average, the #1 ranking page also ranks for nearly a thousand other keywords. So when you’re creating your outline, it’ll pay to know which keywords the top-ranking pages are ranking for so you can get the most mileage out of your blog posts.

To do this, go to Keywords Explorer and search for the target keyword you want to rank for. Then scroll to the bottom of the page, where you’ll see the top 10 ranking pages along with their SEO metrics. And as expected, a bunch of these pages are ranking for thousands of keywords. To see the keywords that this page ranks for, let’s click on the number in the corresponding row, which will open up the Organic Keywords report in Site Explorer. Now, to keep these keywords relevant, let’s set a filter to only show keywords that rank in positions 1 through 10. This will weed out a lot of irrelevant keywords that we don’t need to target.

A few interesting words that pop out to me are “from scratch,” “recipe,” and “batter.” Now, rather than trying to stuff these keywords into your post, it’s best to think of these as subtopics. You can also use them to solidify the angle you want to take for your post. So I may take the angle of creating homemade pancakes from scratch. As for the subtopics, I would likely have a section on “making the batter.” And under the subheadings, I may include descriptive words people are searching for like “delicious and fluffy.” And I may even include a substitute to make the batter without milk. Finally, just add some bullet points below each of the subheadings to ensure that you stay on topic once you get to writing the draft.

Step 4: Writing Your First Draft

Speaking of which, let’s move on to step 4, and that’s to write your first draft. Now, the purpose of this step isn’t to write a perfect blog post that everyone’s going to love. It’s to get your thoughts on screen and into full sentences. If you’ve created a detailed outline, it’s just a matter of looking at your bullet points and making them flow together. These are two tricks that I use that work particularly well for me.

First is the Pomodoro technique. In short, you set a 25-minute timer and a goal you want to achieve in that time. For example, my average typing speed is around 115 words per minute. But since blogging requires more critical thinking than a typing test, I’ll set my goal to 20% efficiency. So this translates into around 575 words every 25 minutes. Now, the key to succeeding using the Pomodoro Technique when writing blog posts is to not hit the back button because of spelling mistakes or to reword your sentence 15 times before you find the perfect phrasing. After your first 25 minutes are up, take a 3-5 minute break and rinse and repeat until complete. This step is all about efficiency, and you don’t want to do anything that would stop you from reaching that goal.

Step 5: Editing Your Draft

In the next step, you need to edit your draft. From my experience, it’s best to take time away from your piece before editing it. There are usually two parts to this. First is to fix spelling and grammatical issues. This is pretty straightforward, and tools like Grammarly can help ease the process. The second part is to make sure that your blog post flows and provides value to readers. Common blogging advice is to “write as you speak,” so reading your post out loud as you edit can definitely give some perspective. If you find that it sounds unnatural, robotic, or whatever, then make edits where needed. Remove anything that’s fluffy, or add in bits and pieces to provide additional clarity or evidence. One last tool I recommend is Hemingway Editor. Just paste your post in there, and it’ll give you a readability grade. A general rule of thumb is to aim for sixth-grade level readability. This will ensure that your blog posts are easy to read and understand.

Step 6: Getting Honest Feedback

Now step 6 is my favorite part of writing blog posts, and that’s to get honest feedback. In my opinion, this is one of the most critical steps in our content creation process. And it’s what allows us to consistently get positive feedback from various online communities. Here’s how we do it at Ahrefs. Josh, our resident blog master, is responsible for ensuring that every post that goes live on our blog is absolutely epic. But epic is subjective. So for each post that he writes, my job is to provide feedback, question any claims, and offer suggestions where relevant. Now, my job is to create videos that are always providing value to you, our viewers. So Josh will review and provide feedback just as I do for his blog posts. And to add an extra layer of quality control, we loop in Tim and Nick to make sure that everything we publish is top-notch. I cannot recommend this step enough. Ask your colleagues, friends, or whoever to review your content, so your team can consistently produce your best stuff.

Step 7: Creating Your Final Draft

The last and final step is to create your final draft. By this point, all feedback should have been given. It’s now your job to take that feedback and make decisions on what goes in the final version and what doesn’t. Go through each touch point, and once all points have been resolved, you just need to do one final read-through. Then upload, publish, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Now, if you enjoyed this Article, make sure to like, share, and follow, and if you have any questions about the writing process, leave a comment below, and I’d love to help. So keep grinding away, and I’ll see you in the next tutorial.

Content is just information. And whatever you want to write about, chances are, you’re not the first. Demand for content is surging. And with information accessible literally at the tip of our fingers, there’s an excess supply, making it more challenging to get noticed and produce profitable results.

So in order to do that, you need a system that will lead to predictable results so that your content can stand out from the rest. So if you’re a blogger, freelance writer, or do any type of content writing, keep reading because I’m going to walk you through a step-by-step framework to engage your audience, satisfy search engines, and as a result, drive consistent traffic and hopefully revenue. Stay tuned.

Setting Clear Objectives for Your Content

Alright, so first, let’s set the record straight. Whether you’re writing for your own site or for a client, you should have two objectives for your content. #1. The content should drive traffic to the site. And #2. The content should engage those people so that they’ll turn into customers or be pushed further down the sales funnel.

So with those objectives in mind, let’s go through a simple 4-step process to achieve both of these goals.

Step 1: Write About Topics People Are Searching For

Most people like to write about topics that excite them. And while that’s all well and good, these posts often have a short shelf life. For example, a few months ago we published an article on how to start a link building campaign fast. We talk about systematizing, automating, scaling and all sorts of exciting things… at least for us. And immediately after publishing, we promoted the post to our social media followers, email list, and spent a few hundred dollars on ads to amplify the content.

As a result, we had a huge spike in traffic with thousands of visits over the first few days. But soon after, the traffic faded fast. And today, it gets next to no traffic compared to our other posts. And while this post wasn’t created with search traffic in mind, we knew that it would create a textbook “spike of hope” and “flatline of nope.” And that’s what happens when you create content that no one’s searching for. Now, when you create content around topics that people are searching for, then you get the opposite effect: free, passive, and consistent traffic that usually grows over time.

Using Keyword Research Tools

To find topics worth creating content on, you’ll need a keyword research tool to a) identify search demand, and b) understand traffic potential of the topic, which is the total amount of monthly search traffic you could get if you were to rank high for that query. So let’s say we have a site on DIY home improvement tutorials. To find keywords to target, Go to Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer and search for some keywords broadly related to the topic, like “home improvement,” “kitchen,” and “living room.”

Next, go to the Questions report. And as you can see, there’s quite a bit of search demand around these topics as you can see from their search volumes. And this topic on “how to paint kitchen cabinets” seems like a promising topic for our DIY home improvement site. Now, to find the traffic potential of the topic, hit the SERP button and look at the Traffic column.

As you can see, the top-ranking page gets over 37,000 monthly visits from Google every single month. So this topic checks both boxes. Now, it’s important to note that I’ve skipped a few steps here in the topic selection process, the main one being assessing ranking difficulty. But this tutorial is on content writing, so instead of expanding, add some links to your keyword research tutorials in the description.

Step 2: Assess the Type of Content Google Wants You to Create

Alright, so at this point, we have a topic to tackle, but just because you have a topic, it doesn’t mean you should write whatever you want. Remember, our goal is to rank at the top of Google so that you can get consistent traffic. And this leads us nicely into the second step, which is to assess the “type” of content Google wants you to create. Google’s job is to deliver the most relevant results for any given query. And they do a pretty good job at this. So naturally, if you want to rank for your target topic, then you need to know the type of content Google will rank for that query.

Understanding Search Intent

This is called search intent, which tells us about what searchers are looking for when they key in a query. The easiest way to do this is to just search for the query you want to rank for and look at the top-ranking results. And the three things you’re looking for are: Сontent type, which can be blog posts, product pages, category pages, or landing pages. Content format, which can be how-to guides, step-by-step tutorials, list posts, opinion editorials, reviews, or comparisons. And the last one is content angle, which is basically the unique selling point of the top-ranking pages.

So looking at the top 10 results for our query “how to paint kitchen cabinets,” you’ll see that all of the pages are blog posts, so that would be the content type you should use too. As for format, the top two ranking pages are “how-tos,” which will be step-by-step tutorials. And for content angle, there isn’t really a definitive one. From my experience, matching content type and format are critical to rank at the top of Google, but angle usually isn’t as important unless there’s a clear theme among the top-ranking pages.

Step 3: Create a Data-Driven Outline

Content is like a puzzle. There are a lot of different pieces and it’s tough to assemble without some kind of framework. Outlines are like the edge pieces of the puzzle. They help to form the base and all you need to do is fill in the missing pieces. They also help make sure you’re including all critical points worth communicating on the topic. And from an SEO perspective, it can help you satisfy the algorithm and the audience.

Forming the Base with Outlines

The way Google determines a page’s placement in the search results is algorithmic. Meaning, you can’t pay to rank at the top of Google and your friend that works there can’t move your site to the top. Their technology is able to understand words and the context they’re in. And the more context you give to search engines, the better your chances of ranking high. The easiest way to find critical talking points is to look at some of the top-ranking pages and see if there are similar subtopics.

For our topic on how to paint kitchen cabinets, the top 2 pages both talk about choosing the right paint, preparation, priming the cabinets, painting the cabinets, and so on. So add these commonalities to your outline as subheadings. Another thing you can do is use Ahrefs’ Content Gap tool to find common keyword rankings between the top-ranking pages. This can help you find more subtopics as well as jargon that might be relevant in adding context to your post. Just enter the top 2 or 3 relevant ranking results in the top section and then run the search. As you can see, people are looking for the best paint for cabinets, they want to know how to refinish them, some are specifically looking for white cabinets, and so on.

Don’t worry about stuffing these keywords in your post, but if you see something that could act as a subheading, it might be worth adding to your outline. Just focus on writing something that’s succinct and actionable. This will humanize the post and help you to focus on what matters most: helping readers.

Step 4: Create a Click-Worthy Headline

A headline is important because it’s what stands between you and a visitor. Its main job is to convince people to actually click on your result. Then it’s your content’s job to keep them reading. Now, if you struggle with writing good headlines, here are a few simple formulas you can use. Take a screenshot before I start filling in the blanks for our home decor site.

Headline Formulas

“How to Professionally Paint Kitchen Cabinets in Under an Hour” “7 Proven Ways to Decorate Your Home on a Tiny Budget” “10 Simple Ways to Renovate your Home on a Shoestring Budget” “10 Reasons You’re Unhappy with Your Home Decor”

Now, it’s important to note that while clickbait headlines might produce more clicks, keep in mind that if your content can’t deliver on the headline’s promise, then it’ll do more harm than good.

Step 5: Write a Killer Intro Using the AIDA Formula

The introduction is arguably the most important part of your content. Its job is to hook your reader, tell them they’re in the right place, and convince them to keep reading. Fortunately, there’s a tried and tested formula you can use called AIDA, which stands for attention, interest, desire, and action.

Attention

Let’s write a sample intro for our article on how to paint kitchen cabinets. The first line should be dedicated to grab your audience’s attention. So something like… “You don’t have to be a professional to paint beautiful kitchen cabinets.” This breaks a common belief the reader might have and thus, grabs their attention.

Interest

The next part is to pique their interest. You can do this with stories, interesting facts, or anything else that might help connect with your audience in a personal way. So let’s add to our intro. “But the surprising thing is that 99% of homeowners still choose contractors, which can cost up to 20 times the price of a DIY solution.” This line adds an interesting fact that also communicates that a) they’ll be unique by doing it themselves, and b) they’ll save a ton of money.

Desire

Alright, next up is desire. This part is meant to show the reader how your content can solve their problem. And one of the best ways to do that is by showing them proof. So let’s add on. “In fact, we spent just $100 on materials and we now have our dream kitchen.”

Action

Finally is action. This can be done in the form of a “let’s get started” type of line or you can enhance the user’s experience using something like a table of contents. So if I were to add on to our intro, I might say: “Let’s walk through the simple 5-step process to get your kitchen looking like a million bucks.”

Step 6: Make Your Content Actionable and Easy to Digest

So your outline should act as a nice skeleton for your post. And to add meat to those bones, you need to do two things. #1. You want to make it as helpful as possible. Meaning, if someone searches for “how to paint kitchen cabinets,” then they should be able successfully do that with the help of your content. This will all come down to your knowledge and expertise on the subject. And #2. You want to make it easy to digest and read. And this comes down to your communication and writing skills.

Tips for Digestible Content

The best tip to make your content digestible is to keep your thoughts as succinct as possible. For example, if you’re writing a step on choosing the right paint for your cabinets, you might say something like… “The color you choose is up to you. However, there are 5 things you need to consider depending on the type of cabinets you have.” Then add a list of 5 bullet points. Compare that to something like… “Color is a powerful thing. It can affect your emotions so choosing the right paint is a critical step. According to a 2018 study, red is a very emotionally intense color. Think about fire and blood. Intense…” This doesn’t really help the user solve their problem. It just sounds like you’re trying to convince them to paint their cabinets red.

As for readability, you can do things like… Use headings and subheadings, avoid walls of text by writing in short sentences and short paragraphs, add images if it helps clarify or visualize a point, and use transitional sentences like “as you know,” “however”, and “also,” which can help improve flow.

Final Thoughts

Now, after you’ve written your content, I highly recommend getting someone to give you unfiltered feedback. It helps us to always put our best foot forward and deliver no-fluff content that we hope will help our readers and viewers.

Now, the content aspect is a very important part when it comes to SEO. Meaning, if you can’t get your content right, then you probably aren’t going to rank high for any meaningful keywords. Also, there are times when you’ll nail your content, but you still can’t rank. This often comes down to the level of competition, which usually boils down to quality backlinks. Now, I won’t go into assessing the ranking difficulty of a topic or how to build backlinks to your pages because we have quite a few tutorials that go deep into these topics. So I highly recommend watching those and if you enjoyed this tutorial, then make sure to like, share, and subscribe for more actionable marketing tutorials.

On-page SEO is critical for improving your blog’s visibility in search engine results. By optimizing individual pages, you can enhance your site’s searchability and attract more organic traffic. Here are some effective on-page SEO techniques to boost your blog’s visibility.

1. Optimize Your Title Tags

Your title tag is one of the first things search engines and users see. Make sure it is compelling and includes your primary keyword.

Example: Instead of “Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle,” use “10 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle: Expert Advice.”

2. Craft Engaging Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions provide a summary of your page content. Include your primary keyword and make it enticing to encourage clicks.

Example: “Discover 10 expert tips for a healthy lifestyle, including diet, exercise, and mindfulness practices. Start your journey to better health today!”

3. Use Header Tags Strategically

Header tags (H1, H2, H3) structure your content and make it easier to read. Include keywords in your headers to improve SEO.

Example:

H1: 10 Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle

H2: Tip 1: Balanced Diet

H3: Benefits of a Balanced Diet

4. Optimize Images

Images enhance your content but can also slow down your site if not optimized. Use descriptive file names and alt text that include your keywords.

Example: Instead of “IMG1234.jpg,” use “healthy-meal-prep.jpg.” Alt text: “Healthy meal prep ideas for beginners.”

5. Improve Page Load Speed

A fast-loading site improves user experience and SEO. Use tools like Google Page Speed Insights to identify and fix issues slowing down your site.

Tips: Compress images, leverage browser caching, and use a content delivery network (CDN).

6. Internal Linking

Linking to other pages on your blog helps search engines understand your site structure and keeps visitors engaged.

Example: If you mention “home workouts” in a post about fitness, link to another post on your site about “effective home workout routines.”

7. Use Keyword-Rich URLs

Your URL should be short, descriptive, and include your primary keyword.

Example: Instead of “www.yourblog.com/p123,” use “www.yourblog.com/healthy-meal-prep-tips.”

8. Write High-Quality Content

Content is king in SEO. Ensure your posts are informative, engaging, and provide value to your readers. Use keywords naturally and avoid keyword stuffing.

Example: Write comprehensive guides, how-tos, and listicles that thoroughly cover your topic.

9. Mobile Optimization

With more users accessing content on mobile devices, ensure your blog is mobile-friendly. Use responsive design and test your site on various devices.

10. Encourage User Engagement

Engage your readers through comments, social shares, and interactive content. Higher engagement signals to search engines that your content is valuable.

Example: Ask questions at the end of your posts to encourage comments. Use social share buttons to make sharing easy.

By implementing these on-page SEO techniques, you can enhance your blog’s visibility, attract more organic traffic, and improve your search engine rankings. Stay tuned for more expert tips on optimizing your blog with True Money Secret!

Hello guys! What’s up? Welcome back to my Blog Post. I was brainstorming content the other day, trying to think of how I could share more beginner blogging tips with you because sometimes I feel like I share some of the advanced stuff and don’t take it back to the basics. That’s exactly why I wrote this Today

Today, I figured it would be fun to talk about some simple things you can do in your first month of blogging. When you first start your blog, there is so much information out there and so much stuff that you have to do, or that other people are telling you that you have to do if you want to grow your blog. So, what are some things you can do from the beginning to set up your blog for success? I’m going to share five things with you that I think you should be doing in your first month of blogging. I’m going to start with the basics because I don’t want to overwhelm you.

1. Set Up Your Social Media Presence

The first thing you should do is set up your social media presence. Once you have your blog, your domain, and your website, it’s going to take you a while to actually design that website and get it ready for launch. While you are doing that, you need to make sure that you are setting up your social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

When you are setting up your social media accounts, you want to make sure that they accurately reflect your brand and what you are trying to create with your blog. If you are talking about one specific topic on your blog, you should be talking about that topic across your social media platforms as well. One important thing to remember is that when you are setting up those accounts, you want your handle to match your blog. If your blog name is something unique and something you came up with, and then your social media handle is just your personal name, it’s going to be a little bit harder for people to find you. For example, everything for me is “emmanueljtv.” If you go on Instagram, it’s “.emmanueljtv” If you search on YouTube, it’s “emmanueljegedetv.” If you type in “emmanueladex.com,” you’re going to find my website. It makes it a little bit easier for your audience to find you if they just have one specific name. So, you definitely want to make sure that you are setting up your social media presence.

2. Create and Build Out Your Content Calendar

Next, you want to create and build out your content calendar. If you have no idea what a content calendar is, it’s very simple. It’s basically just your schedule that tells you what blog posts are going out on what days. Within my content calendar, I also like to have a section that includes all of my ideas. So, when I have to write a blog post, I have an idea right there ready for me, and I can just sit down and write. This is something that is really going to hold you accountable and help you stay consistent as a blogger from the very beginning. I have to tell you, a new YouTube video is coming out very soon talking about how to remain consistent as a blogger. There are going to be a lot of tips in that video, so make sure you subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss it.

3. Set Up Google Analytics

Since you’re a website owner, there are a few technical things that you need to do to set up and manage your website. You want to set up your Google Analytics . Let’s start with Google Analytics. Google Analytics is going to be your place where you can tell how many people are visiting your website, where those people are coming from, how long they’re spending on your website and so much more information. Google Analytics is going to become your friend.

Setting up your Google Analytics isn’t that complicated; honestly, Google will walk you through the steps to do it. But I want to talk a bit more about Google Search Console because I feel like not a lot of people know about Google Search Console, and it is the foundation for your SEO success. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and that’s basically how you get found on Google. Google has an algorithm just like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Everything has an algorithm, and you want to ensure that you are working with Google’s algorithms to appear higher in searches. Many people want to appear first in search, and one of the steps you have to do is get set up with Google Search Console. What Google Search Console does is lets you verify your website with Google so Google knows that your website exists. They know what pages to go through as well as what pages their robot is allowed to crawl and rank within their search engine.

Google Search Console

You’re going to want to go to Google and simply search for “Google Search Console.” This should be the first search result that appears. You will also notice that Google Search Console is also referred to as a webmaster tool. So, if you ever hear either name, just know that it is the exact same platform. You’re going to click on the first search result; it should be search.google.com/search-console/about. This is going to show you a little overview of what Google Search Console can do, but what you want is the “Start Now” button. It will then bring you to this page where it’s going to tell you that you need to verify your website. This is the exact step that I want to walk you guys through. But it is so important to note before you start typing in your domain here, you need to understand if your domain is a www or non-www domain. Now, you may think that this is confusing because you may think that all websites start with www, but that’s just not the case. So, I’m going to go to my website right now and show you how you can tell if yours is a www or not. This is my website, and if you click up top, it will include www if it is a www website. Mine is not; I have it registered as emmanueladex.com without the www ahead of it. Let me show you; straight to Pinterest, just to show you one that does have www in front of it. Once I am here, if I click on the URL, you can see that this includes www ahead of it. So, you want to make sure you check your website right now to see if it does have www or no www in front of it. I just said wow so many times. Then, you’re not going to do this domain option; I would go to this URL option over here, and you’re going to type in your URL. You also want to make sure if your website is an HTTP or an HTTPS website. I’m going to type in my website right here, no www in front of it, and I’m going to click continue. Then you should see a box like this appear. You’re going to want to click on the HTML tag option. When you click on this, there is going to be a specific piece of code for your website that appears in this general section right here. Once you see that piece of code, you are going to select it and copy it. Then you’re going to jump to your WordPress dashboard, and you are going to need a plugin called “Tracking Code Manager.” So, under plugins and new, I will show you guys what this looks like. This is the plugin right here that you are going to want to install and then activate. You’re going to want to add a name, so I would do “Google Search Console Verification” just so you know not to delete this in the future. In this big black box area right here, you are going to paste your code that you just took from the other page. Then you want to make sure that this position is before the head; do not select anything else. You want those two selected, make sure your code is here, and then you’re going to click save. Once that is saved, you can go back to Google Search Console and click verify, and your website should be verified immediately. Now, if you do not have a WordPress website or maybe you don’t feel comfortable walking through those steps, you can actually go through your hosting provider, and Google Search Console shows you some other options that you can use to get your website verified. So, you would follow the steps given to you by Google Search Console, but for me, I like using the HTML tag. It’s just personal preference; I think it’s easy and gets it done fast.

4. Apply for Google AdSense

Then, I would recommend that you apply for Google AdSense. When you are a beginner blogger, one of the easiest ways for you to make pennies—I’m talking two pennies if that—is through ads. You are not going to be making very much money with ads from the very beginning, but I do think it is important that you include ads on your website from the start so your audience gets used to seeing ads. Compared to if you don’t have any ads on your website for months or maybe even a year, and then you randomly start including ads on your website, your audience may get confused or they may not like the format or the flow of your website anymore. So, I would recommend putting ads on your website from the very beginning so your audience is used to it and so you can start making money as soon as possible. With Google AdSense, you do not need a certain number of page views to apply. You can simply apply to Google AdSense and start adding ads to your website. Then, once you do hit a certain number of page views and you want to move up to maybe a more advanced ad network, you can go ahead and do that.

5. Learn About Pinterest

Of course, if you are serious about growing your blog from the very beginning, you need to learn about Pinterest. Guys, I’m going to talk about Pinterest all the time because it truly is a powerhouse, especially for bloggers, to drive traffic to your website. So, if you want more traffic, and more eyeballs on your website, and you want to start growing from the very beginning, from your first month, you need to learn as much as you can about Pinterest. But some of the things that I would recommend you pay attention to and research about Pinterest are how to set up your Pinterest account for success, how to SEO your Pinterest account, how many times to pin, and research Tailwind. I’m telling you, Tailwind will help you to grow on the Pinterest platform with Tailwind Tribes. Oh, and don’t forget about group boards because group boards are very important as well. So, I would highly, highly recommend you learn as much about Pinterest as possible so you can start driving that traffic.

Those are the five things that I think you need to do in your first month after starting your blog.

Effective keyword research is the foundation of a successful blog. By identifying and targeting the right keywords, you can drive organic traffic, engage your audience, and improve your search engine rankings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to finding the best keywords for your blog.

1. Understand Your Audience

Before diving into keyword tools, it’s crucial to understand your audience’s needs and interests. Think about what your potential readers are searching for and what problems they need solving.

Example: If your blog is about fitness, your audience might be searching for “best home workouts,” “healthy diet plans,” or “beginner yoga routines.”

2. Use Keyword Research Tools

Several tools can help you discover high-ranking keywords. Here are some of the most effective ones:

Google Keyword Planner: Offers keyword ideas and search volume data.

Ahrefs: Provides comprehensive keyword analysis, including difficulty scores and search volume.

SEMrush: Offers keyword suggestions, competitor analysis, and more.

Ubersuggest: Free tool for keyword ideas and search volume.

3. Analyze Keyword Metrics

When evaluating potential keywords, focus on three main metrics:

Search Volume: Indicates how often a keyword is searched. Higher search volumes mean more potential traffic.

Keyword Difficulty (KD): Measures how hard it is to rank for a keyword. Aim for keywords with low to medium difficulty.

Cost Per Click (CPC): Relevant if you plan to monetize through ads. Higher CPC indicates a more profitable keyword.

4. Identify Long-Tail Keywords

Long-tail keywords are longer, more specific phrases that usually have lower competition but higher conversion rates. They cater to more targeted queries and can be easier to rank for.

Example: Instead of targeting “workouts,” use long-tail keywords like “effective home workouts for beginners” or “30-minute cardio workouts.”

5. Analyze Competitors

Look at what keywords your competitors are ranking for. Tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush can provide insights into their top-performing keywords. This can help you identify gaps and opportunities.

Example: If a competitor is ranking for “vegan diet plans,” you might find a gap with “vegan diet plans for athletes.”

6. Create a Keyword List

Compile a list of potential keywords that align with your blog’s content and goals. Organize them based on relevance, search volume, and difficulty.

Example List:

“Healthy meal prep ideas”

“Home workout routines”

“Stress management techniques”

“Meditation for beginners”

7. Prioritize and Plan

Select a mix of high-volume and long-tail keywords to create a balanced content strategy. Plan your blog posts around these keywords to ensure a steady flow of relevant traffic.

High-Volume Keywords: “Healthy meal prep ideas”

Long-Tail Keywords: “Easy healthy meal prep ideas for beginners”

By following these steps, you can identify the best keywords for your blog, ensuring that your content is both relevant and discoverable. Stay tuned for more tips on optimizing your blog with True Money Secret!

Step 1: Choose Your Niche

Selecting the right niche is crucial for the success of your blog. Your niche should be something you’re passionate about and have expertise in. Popular niches include:

Technology and Gadgets

Use tools like Google Trends and keyword research to identify high-demand topics within your chosen niche.

Step 2: Pick a Domain Name and Hosting

Your domain name is your blog’s address on the internet. Choose a name that is easy to remember, relevant to your niche, and preferably includes keywords. Once you have a domain name, select a reliable hosting provider. Some popular options are Bluehost, SiteGround, and HostGator.

Step 3: Set Up Your Blog

Use a platform like WordPress to set up your blog. WordPress is user-friendly and offers a wide range of customization options through themes and plugins. Here’s a quick setup guide:

Install WordPress: Most hosting providers offer one-click WordPress installation.
